Garage-Carport Roof
We will tear down the current carport, and its wood can be reused for rebuild.
As Is
This is what we have now, with a shallow sloping carport roof fastened to the garage. The garage roof does not come to apoint as shown in this image -- the roof pictured in the next image is correct.
What We Want 01
We want the carport roof to be integrated with the garage roof, and shingled together. Roof area: 550 sq.ft.
What We Want 02
We want the carport roof to be integrated with the garage roof, and shingled together. Roof area: 550 sq.ft.
We've settled on these 4 design option, and are now in the midst of choosing between them.
The following details are all based on the original design (shown above) and may changes slighly if we go with one of the other design options. We have already made some choices that will slightly change some of the following details (for instace we will not be going to the pot lights).
Electrical
The kitchen needs a number of new outlets, and some special media and
networking wiring. We may need to replace the main panel in the basement.
Bathroom
The bathroom currently has a light about the sink and a single light switch. We
want to replace the light, add a fan, add a fan switch, and add an electrical outlet.
Kitchen Front
We need to add a number of electrical outlets around the kitchen. We also want to
add 10 pot lights (we may exchange 2 of these light for stereo speakers) and two old schoolhouse lights.
We plan to mount a television of the left wall, and install a small computer in the existing niche. This
niche will have to be wired with outlets for electricity, LAN, coax, phone, and speakers and perhaps a
USB jack as well. There is currently an outlet for an electric range which we do not use because we have a
gas range.
Kitchen Back
Add outlets and light switches.
Flooring
Bathroom Floor
Bathroom current has a vinyl floor. We have not looked underneath to tell is the
wood is the same as in the rest of the house. Our assumption is yes it is. Area: 25 sq.ft.
Kitchen Floor with Cabinets
Floor used to have vinyl over fir. We removed the vinyl, leaving the fir covered
dried old adhesive. We're not sure of the floor condition under the existing cabinets. Cabinets pictured
here are what we plan to have, not what is already in place -- although the layout is rough the same.
Area: 240 sq.ft.
Kitchen Floor Empty Room
The full floor plan stripped of cabinets, and show location of plumbing and gas
pipes. Also note the dark brown strip in bottom left corner. This shows an ares where the wood needs to be
replaced entirely with matching fir. Area: 240 sq.ft.
Carpentry
The following are all of the pieces we need custom built.
Arch
A decorative arch.
Bench with Cubbies
A simple straight bench with cubbies for baskets. This bench will fit between
floor to ceiling pantries.
Above Pantry Cabinet Doors
The top portion of each pantry will have to be made by modifying a larger Ikea
cabinet. We will need the doors custom made to match the size of this modified cabinet, and the look of
the other Ikea cabinet doors.
Cupboard Shelves
These are almost decorative shelves that will sit beneath the cupboards.
Cupboard Shelf Supports
These are 6 supports for the shelves.
Showing Finished Cupboards
This is what we're shooting for as a finished result.
Custom Doors for Sink Cabinet
This cabinet will need to support of 30" apron sink
Curved Cabinet
We want either a cabinet or a set of shelves here. The cabinet door should be
hinged at the back and completely open to the left.
Curved Cabinet Dimensions
The dimensions for the cabinet.
Curved Shelves
We're considering shelves as a cabinet alternative.
Cabinets
White laquored finished, semi-glossy.
Pantries
Tall pantry of 75" with a top pantry added, each with independent doors.
Plumbing
The plumbing and gas infrastructure in the kitchen seems find, however the sink and toilet
replacement in the bathroom might need a professional
Bathroom
We want to replace vanity with a pedestal sink, replacing toilet, and replace the sink and bath
faucets as well as shower head.
Kitchen
Installing the dishwasher and connecting the apron sink would be pretty straight
forward. However we'd also like to install a wall mounted faucet. We'd prefer a single lever faucet, and one
with a sprayer as well. If we can't find these feature, we'll have to go with a deck mounted.
Kitchen Pipes
Showing to location of the gas and plumbing pipes.
Tiling
We've decided on the tile and layout pattern for the kitchen, but not yet
for the bathroom.
Bathroom
We haven't picked a tile or pattern yet, but are pretty certain that we only need
the inside of the show tiled. The ceiling in the shower is about 3 feet lower than the room ceiling,
reducing the amount of space we need to cover. Area: 52 sq.ft.
Kitchen with Cabinets
White subway tile laid in a herringbone pattern. Area: 43 sq.ft.
Kitchen Stripped of Cabinets
Area: 43 sq.ft.
Window
Currently it seems that only the windows will need carpentry, however we might
need other carpentry work to modify the walls or repair damage.
Back Window 01
There are 2 different sized windows on this wall currently. We want to replace
them with a single large window that match the others in the house.
See current.
Side Window with Stained Glass
The space currently has a metal sliding glass window, which we'd like to replace
with a stained glass window. The frame may need to be reconstructed to allow this.
